I guess somewhere along the way I upgraded my Epson 740 drivers from the Epson web site. Now I can't check my printer's ink level any more. When I go to the utility screen in the print dialog, the ink level option is gone. The background print monitor has an ink level button, but it won't let me click it. I tried trashing the prefs. Any ideas? Did epson cut out this functionality (since it was really bogus anyway)?

Using latest driver and prior ones as well, i can use ink level utility with my 740. As i never use background printing, perhaps there is the glitch. Try to unselect background printing and see if any differences.
By the way, i have no problem with OS 9.1 (i switch on the printer always after my iMac booted.

I have updated my drivers on a number of occasions, and I still can use the "ink level checker" utility (what good is it anyway?). What I have been unable to do is set up for background printing. There was a time when background printing worked, but no longer. In the chooser the option for background printing is available, but I cannot check the button that turns it on! Anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks,

Jeff

Bogus? How so? The function works very nicely on my 750. I always check it b4 I initiate a head clean when that likely need is indicated.

Its bogus because its not intelligent -- it bases your ink level on the number of pages you have printed since you installed the cartridge, not how much ink you really have. For example, it wouldn't let me print because my color cartridge was low. But if you take it out and put it back in, it thinks its full. Anyway, I still haven't been able to get that functionality back. I emailed epson.. we'll see if they ever respond.
