o.k. here's the dilemma i have a usb only imac. i want a cdrw, and the one i want comes in scsi or firewire only. (external, yamaha) i was thinking about going firewire only because next computer i get will have firewire. is there a manufacturer out there that makes one? will it work? (i know i can only burn at 2 or 4x with usb) i've seen alot of usb to scsi, and even a scsi to firewire adapters, but yet to see firewire to usb. any info is appreciated.....thanx

There is a company called "FreeCom" that make Mac compatible CD burners. And one or two of them have USB & FireWire ports. A product like this is probably your best bet.

However, I don't actually own one of these so I don't have any more details or web adds etc.. Sorry

Even the USB/FireWire combo drives will be limited to 4X speed while using FW. My advice is buy an inexpensive USB drive now. When you get your FireWire computer, but a nicer drive that is 16x10x40x or something along those lines for speed. They will be cheaper down the road anyway. It beats spending a lot now for a drive that will always be only 4x.
