I have a 15" Powerbook 1.5 gig and just got a 20" Apple Cinema display.
Got it hooked up and have a resolution problem.

I have the powerbook display set at 1280 X 854 resolution. This gives the clearest, sharpest picture. At this setting the image on the cinema is the same size as it is on the powerbook. When I reset the resolution to1152 X 768, it then fills the cinema screen, but it is slightly blury. What do I need to do to get the image large enough to fill the cinema screen and remain sharp.

The box that the display came in says " supports 1680 x 1050 pixels". Don't know if that is a clue or not.

I could swear I have seen these big displays on in the computer stores, Frys, etc, and the screen was full and sharp.

Anyone have any solutions?

Thanks

Jay

LCD displays have the ability to output various resolutions. For gamers, using a lower resolution allows for higher FPS. Sometimes you need to change the resolution for a movie or presentation. But with LCD displays, they display their sharpest images at their native resolution. When you use a lower resolution, the display blocks pixels together into groups of more than one to achieve the desired resolution. The results can be a blurry or distorted image (not as sharp is what I am trying to get across).

Usually this isn't that big of an issue. My suggestion would be to keep the output resolution to the native 1680x1050 pixels as the default. You can easily change the setting using System Preferences<Displays<(Resolutions menu).

Also, are you trying to mirror your display or use the 20" monitor as a second display. You can do either one. Maybe that is the issue.

The display models at stores such as Fry's or CompUSA are set to their maximum resolution (so 1680x1050 for the 20")

I hope I answered your question....
