Don't know how to get Microsoft off the mouse, but if memory serves Microsoft actually just rebrands Xerox hardware (they don't really make the hardware themselves but they do write the drivers).

2077, are you talking about the 'microsoft' that's right on the front/top (where your palm would rest)? if so, try using your finger nail to scratch off the name; i just tried it and now mine says 'micros t'. i guess i'll have to scratch off the rest

yes, the microsoft that is on the top/rear where the palm rests

chances are that over time, it will wear off, but it really distracts me

if i had fingernails i would try that hehe, but i would almost rather have it say microsoft than have scratch marks and stuff..hmm, i guess i will just keep trying, thanks though

I've had mine for almost a year. I love the damn thing, despite it being from the darkside.

The logo is wearing off, it says "Micros". So is the metallic color where one's thumb rests. The wheel still works great, unlike Logitech's whick get smooth fairly quickly.

At least this microsoft mouse doesn't promote crashes like outlook and explorer.

My 2 cents.

You could use nail polish remover... but that would also remove the silver from the mouse, or whatever it is too.
I wouldn't bother if I were you. Or just scratch it, as mentioned - the 'scratch marks' will be just about invisible. Just the letters will come off.

I also have that mouse and it is bloody good. Makes surfen the net easy as ( back/forward button and wheely thing sweet), Butonly cause Xerox made it like sandman said I actually find the red light kinda distracting when your hands not on it.

Argh... am I the only one that finds it incredibly slow to move, and innacurate? You have to apply a fair amount of force to move it, so when moving tiny bits, it won't move at all, then you push harder, and it will move too much... pain in the ass.
Its heavy, slow, big, and bulky. And ugly. And the two side buttons are a little unco to press - my hand is the right size for it, but it takes a more conscious action to press them.
Know what I mean?

Cipher,

I know this may seem obvious, but have you checked your CP settings? Also, be sure to disable the apple mouse CP as it can get in the way.

I find the buttons very subliminal after a while. In fact, I start squeezing my macally 2-button at work to close documents (small thumb btn) or go back in IE, and get ticked when nothing happens

i work on an regular intellimouse at work and i find myself also trying to press the thumb button
everyone i talk to usually thinks the mouse is way too big, but i must say, i've gotten very used to it. in fact, other mice i use seem to not fit my hand as well as my intellimouse explorer

...and back to the original post, i've just finished scratching off the rest of the 'micros t': the scratch marks are barely visible.

You have all inspired me to scratch the Microsoft off of my mouse too. Looks much better now!

My 2 cents: I love my Intellimouse Explorer and wouldn't use any other mouse.

They must have changed the formula for the writing on my mouse. It doesn't want to scratch off!

Is there anyway to customize the buttons on an Intellimouse in OS X PB? The left and right buttons and the wheel work, but only in some apps(Explorer, Mail). The side buttons don't work at all.

You would need a driver to configure the buttons. How in X they do it. I don't know. Yet.

I decided to wait a bit before I put X on my machines.

maybe microsoft improved their 'microsoft logo imprinting paint'
i got my mouse right when they came out, around november '99, and before i scratched the rest of the logo off, it was rubbing off already.

so, the scroll doesn't work in golive 5 either? that sucks, i was hoping to upgrade from 4, because i figure they got it working in 5.

LOL! yeah they must have reformulated their logo paint...mine wont rub off. but i did just get it within the last month, and it hasnt started to wear off yet. darn. oh well, i will work on it.

yes, the wheel does not work in golive 5, and it makes me mad ...mostly cause i am used to using the wheel for scrolling, plus the scrollbar is usually covered up by my tool pallettes.

The wheel doesn't work well in Quark 4, either. Of course, they still hardcode the ancient scrollbars, too.

Maybe it takes a year of greasy palm sweat to soften the ink?

No, its not that. My Mouse extension is disabled and I use USB Overdrive (on fast 100 setting). I mean its PHYSICALLY slow to move.
It just doesn't "glide", no matter what surface its on

hey cipher,

to make that mouse really glide, maybe you need this:
http://reviews.macnn.com/reviews/mou...seskatez.phtml

6.95 seems a lot to pay for a couple strips of teflon-like stuff to cover up the rubber pads on the bottom of the intellimouse, but hey, maybe it makes a big difference...

Cool, thanks
I haven't got the IntelliMouse anymore (dumped it after a week), but I'll keep it in mind for the poor guy that has it now
I might try those out on another mouse I have... thanks

Another idea is this Slippery Tape from Lee Valley. It will do about two hundred mice for $2 more than the Mouseskatz. Or you could use what is left to make all kinds of other stuff slide better (sticky drawers, maybe).
