I just bought a QPS Que!Fire 12x10x32 CDRW drive and to my dismay I found out that you can NOT burn a disk image with it! The drive comes with Toast 4.1.1 which does not have the capabilty to burn a disk image like an ISO or HFS image file. It seems that this was a known (not to me) limitation of the Toast 4.1.1 software. What is really upsetting is that the Toast 3.5.7 did have the capabilty, but is seems that this capabilty was removed with the uprade o 4.1.1. I guess as a way of encouraging you to upgrade to the Toast Deluxe version! It seems to me that this is the slimiest of business practices.
Well, I called QPS to see if there was a workaround. They told me to buy a copy of Toast Deluxe if I wanted to burn a disk image. I told him that I thought that it seemed unfair that I would have to buy a $100 piece of software to do something that the PC users could do with the included software, he told me that I could
1) Call Adaptec and complain to them because they are the ones that crippled Toast 4.1.1.
2) They could send me a driver for the Que!Fire 10x12x32 to use with Toast 3.5.7 but that I would have to get a copy of 3.5.7 myself and that this probably wouldn't work because he had never tried this before.
3) Use the internet to pirate a copy of Toast Deluxe.
Somewhat less than satisfactory customer support.
