I finally got it all to work
Last spring I was given a Canon digital camera (Power Shot A5 Zoom). This camera uses a serial port cable to interface with a Mac and I have a USB only iMac. I thought the simple solution would be the "Entrega Mac usb dock" This would give me a net gain of one USB port, SCSI if I ever needed it and the serial port that I did need.
When the hub arrived I began loading the drivers for the hub along with the the software included with the camera (Adobe Photo Deluxe, Adobe Type Manager, Power Shot utilities and a few other editing tools). At the time I had OS9 now upgraded to 9.0.4. This is where the crashes began and all this time I blamed them on Entrega and the drivers for their dock. After repairing the damage I put the camera away for awhile and even tried giving the Entrega Mac usb dock away. I offered it for free on this board once.
Recently I decided to bypass the serial port issue altogether and bought a USB Compact Flash card reader. I got a cheap one from Simple Technology and it works great. I was able to view and print the pictures with picture viewer but I wanted to use Photo Deluxe so I reinstalled it from the camera's CD. Now Photo Deluxe tells me that I need Adobe Type Manager so I click away and on the restart, the dreaded bomb message. I hadn't seen that one sense the last time I tried this install.
Now I owe Entrega an apology, it was ATM all along. After repairing the damage this time I went to the Adobe web site and down loaded the free version of ATM, "ATM light" I believe and now everything works fine.Whatever the version of Adobe Type Manager that came with the camera was. It didn't like my computer at all. I don't know what one it is because the cover does not say and I have no plans to reload it to find out.
Now that it's all said and done, the card reader is a much better way to get the information to the computer than the camera and it's cables anyway.
