Hi,

I've had an external 40GB Maxtor Firewire HD hooked up to my Beige G3 through an OrangeMicro 1394/USB Combo card for about 6 months with no problems.

I have version 3.4 of the Maxtor software installed and version 2.3.3 of Apple Firewire. I'm using OS 8.6.

This is one of the Maxtor drives that does not have a power switch. However, when the system is shut down the drive does seem to spindown.

This morning I awoke to find the system frozen. Now I can't get the system to recognize the drive and it does not sound like it is even running although the green 'power ' light is on. Basically it looks as if it won't turn on when the system tells it to...

-Any suggestions for this issue?

-If not, is it possible to open the case, remove the drive and try it as a standard IDE drive?

Thanks for any info,
Tee
