i am going to buy a yamaha firewire cdrw. should I buy it now, or wait for the new lightspeed cdrw? How much will it be? Will there be a significant price drop for 8824 at that time?

FWIW:

There will always be "newer technology" just around the corner no matter weather it is computers, digital cameras, or whatever. If you wait for new technology you will never buy anything. If the drive meets your requirements and works with your computer, get it and enjoy its benefits.

Seriously though, I have been "in the market" for a CDRW drive for some time now. I keep putting off the purchase for one reason or another. After months of this, I find that I keep having that $300 in my pocket and that I haven't really suffered any by not having the drive.

If I had a pressing need to burn a CD, I would buy one instantly. But I keep finding that what I thought were needs were just market influences and peer pressure.
