Dillemma... For roughly $800 - $1000 I can buy either... one 21" Sony monitor, or a 19" monitor plus a 17" monitor and a Radeon card for my G4.
Which setup would be more effective? Is it a pain to have 2 monitors? While it would be very useful while using Final Cut Pro, I think that one big monitor would be better for web surfing, word processing, Quicken, etc...
Opinions, rants?

I'd go the two smaller ones.
21" isn't that much better than 19 - and 17" is plenty.
So I'd go to two large monitors rather than the one massive one personally...

I'd go with the 21". You'll use it's full real estate a lot more than you will that of both the dual monitors (my secondary/teritiary monitors have always gotten far less use than the main one).

To each their own - had it been a 17" and a 15" I woulda said the 21, but when its 19 and 17... you really think the 21 is better?
Two monitors is a pain in the ass compared to one big one, but with the 19 incher, that shouldn't really be a problem...
Think resolution wise. The 21 only offers 1600*1200 probably, right?
So will the 17 and 19...
Real estate becomes moot there...
Whats your eyesight like?

I would tell you it depends on what you will be doing. You mention FCP, but will you use that most of the time, or only part of the time? If you use apps like FCP, Photoshop, etc. that would greatly benefit from a second monitor for uses like previewing your video or placing your tool palettes, definitely go with 2 monitors. If you will predominantly be surfing and word processing, go with the single monitor.
I have only a single 19in. and use my G4 for video about 90% of the time. I plan on buying a Radeon and a second 17in. or 19in. monitor when I have the money because I feel I will get the most use out of that. For the rest of the work I do, the single monitor is more than good enough.
