i just have like a folder for each different thing on my external hard drive . i have all my music in one folder, but all my programs and stuff scattered around. When you open your regular hard drive in tiger, your apps, movies, and music is on the left, is there a way i can do that on my external? i hope this wasnt too confusing

Welll, the layout of my 300 GB external drive goes something like this:

./Applications
./Games
./Miscellaneous
./Movies
./TV Shows

:-)

As for the side bar ... you can easily customize what is listed there. Just grab a folder, and drag it into the sidebar. It becomes a "shortcut" for that folder.

My external is like
// Torrents
// DV
// Music
// Apps

What I would do in your case is make a shortcut to a folder with other shortcuts. I do a similar thing with my network at work.

Create a folder called "External" and then make a bunch of other alias folders to the specific folders in the External hard drive (Music, Apps, etc) then just drop that "External" folder in the sidebar and you'll have all your external drive shortcuts in one spot.
