Ok, here's an skinny: The CD-ReWriter is by MicroSolutions, and is called the Backpack cd-rewriter (USB). It reads at 24x, and writes/rewrites at 4x. It does not say that it's Mac-compatible on the box; just Windoze 98/2000/etc....(It's a friend's not mine....).
What I'm wondering is if there are any generic USB drivers that are available for USB CD recorders. When I start up, it tells me that the USB device needs drivers, and offers to look for them - but finds nothing. Toast 4.2 doesn't recognize that I have a recorder installed.
Any ideas? MacOS X is sitting on my desk, and I'm getting antsy....:-0

Really, the only drivers out there for CD-RWs come with Toast or Discribe... but if Toast can't read it (I assume you have the Toast USB extension installed, and all Toats USB drivers) then the drive must use a mechanism that Toast does not support--therefore making it incompatible with Macs.

I wouldn't hedge my bets on Discribe, either... as I've found it to be far worse than Toast.

Hmmm. SO you mean there are specific Toast USB drivers for CD recorders?? I don't remember seeing them. I'll restart in OS 9 and look....
