Alright, I got the DVico Momobay firewire-enclosure and a new 40 GByte 2.5 Drive.

Now, my old HD (20 GByte) is packed with valueable data to almost 100 %.

Can I take it out, install the new HD and all the Software, then put the old HD in the enclosure, plug in the Firewire and copy the data back onto the new HD?

Or do I need to make another back-up somewhere else? Due to the data-size this would constitute a serious problem, as all I have got here is my powerbook and this one drive.
2007 MacBook Pro 2.4 4 GByte RAM 320/7000 HD
2000 Powerbook Pismo G3 500 MHz, 640 MByte RAM, 40 GByte HD, Airport, NewerTech Battery, integrated DVD/CD-R(W) running Mac OS 10.4.11

of course the safest route is to always back up your data... but, you shouldn't lose any data on your 20Gb drive, and after installing it in the firewire enclosure, you should be able to copy all of your data over.
i just did this with my cube - pulled out the 20Gb drive, put it in an external firewire enclosure and copied data back to my new HD.
one post closer to five stars
