Seems that the iPod is soooo close to what it could have been, an "iPad"! Why not make it's screen just a little bigger, incorporate Palm technology, and have this thing be a PDA/MP3 player? What a great PDA this would be! With Firewire synching, 5GB hardrive, 10 hours of time that can be recharged from an iBook?!? Plus all the accessories that Apple could come up with to go long with it? Hello APPLE?!? This could have been the ultimate new product! People have been waiting so long for an Apple PDA! And this seems like it would have been so easy to combine with the iPod concept! Of course, I'd expect it to still be $399, so that the price would seem a little more realistic. I'm an Apple addict, but $400 for an MP3 player? I've met the iPod....now I want to meet the "iPad"!

Palm market is saturated - when will you people understand that Apple for the foreseeable will not sell a palm top
You also just want it at the same price as it is at the moment . That drive alone is costing Apple a hefty amount of money since it retails at $399 so a fair amount of the money you spend on that thing is the drive. Add to this the cost of licensing the PalmOS or developing the NewtonOS so that it is on par with current technology you are adding a hell of a lot to the cost of that thing. This would be represented in the final price.

Hmm, No. Like ntsc said, the palmtop market is saturated, we don't need another one. So we need a bigger screen, which means we need a bigger unit, otherwise we'll sacrafice the iPod's controls. Something that wouldn't be worthwhile. Some might say that we could incorporate iPod's controls onto a touch screen, in that case forget the jog wheel (IMO, the crowning piece of the easy to use interface)
Trying to make the iPod a PDA would be trying to make it do too much.
