I am strongly considering purchasing a 17" LCD Studio Display. (And selling my 17" CRT Studio Display).

Where is the best place to purchase one? My options are:

- Local CompUSA (Save shipping, but pay 7% sales tax)
- Mail order place (which one? I'd prefer to avoid sales tax ... of course there is shipping).

I certainly want to avoid paying shipping AND sales tax. (Which eliminates the Apple online Store!)

(Or ... is it better to wait and see if Apple is going to introduce some new displays?)

Thanks ...
- iMac 3.2Ghz 1TB - MacBook Pro 15" Core i7 2.3Ghz / 256SSD (Work laptop)
- PowerMac G5 - Dual 2.0 Ghz, 3GB, Soundsticks!,
- Lenovo Thinkpad T510 (also a work laptop), Win 7 Enterprise, 8GB, 320GB HDD

For real though, wait it out another two months, as I think there will be some major upgrades, with decent prices. It's worth it in my opinion.

Actually, there is not ALWAYS shipping. For example, check out: http://www.outpost.com/

And for a comparison of all different prices/features/experiences try a search at: http://mac.price.com/

How about supporting a local Apple Specialist reseller?
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Such as?
I've never seen one around here, nor even heard of one for that matter. (Of course I'm the only guy I know around here with a Mac.)

If it's more than 10 miles away it'll take an hour to get there in this traffic. (I tend to drive as little as possible when given the option.)

Everyone: Thanks for your replies (Outpost w/ shipping, and this one about the advice to wait .... I've read them all.)

"To buy or not to buy ... that is the question." <GRIN>

What do you expect to happen with the next display upgrade? Cheaper prices or improved quality/size? (Or both?)

Apple is a fun company to watch ... I'll give them that.

Avoid Outpost at all costs. I had a horrible experience there when I tried to order my 867 G4. They charged my credit card and then told me my card was denied. I spent 4 days going back and forth with them trying to get them to release my funds. The customer service was horrible and they acted like it was no big deal...very disappointing. I ended up going to http://www.macconnection with no problems...and they're in Ohio or something so you can avoid the sales tax.

FWIW, my orders with Outpost have gone flawlessly. Great service, prices and delivery. However, read this update about Apple hardware sales at Outpost.

Anyway, this topic is about Peripherals not Power Mac, so it's outta here. Find thread in Peripherals forum.

I HIGHLY recommend Outpost.com
I've never had any problems and have spent thousands and thousands of dollars there. Also, there customer support cannot be beat. I was able to return the shitty-ass Que Firewire CD Burner I got from there after determining that it would burn coaster after coaster when burning DAO. I got a Yamaha that is flawless and had not one question asked...

Without doubt, go with Outpost.

Outpost wasn't carrying the Studio Display at the moment.

Bummer.
