Hi All,
I know someone who has a Iomega 100MB Zip Plus, which works well on older macs (even Mac Classic). I can't find it anywhere. Discontinued I think. Is there a zip drive around that will do the trick for these machines running MAC OS 7.6.1, MAC OS 8.1, and Win 98?

Zip plus is nothing more than a Zip drive that is compatible with both PC's parallel port and Mac's SCSI port. Of course, if the PC has a SCSI port, it will work on that SCSI port.

The $99 Zip 100 SCSI is still available.

Thanks Paul,
The Zip 100 scsi drive should be ok. However, Iomega specs state OS 8.1 or higher is needed. A teacher had the zip plus on a Mac Classic running 7.0 ( I believe). Does anybody know if the Zip100 scsi will work on OS 7.6? I want them to work on 575's with 7.6. Thanks all.

I have used zips on this config before with no probs.

I think the higher spec refers to using the Zip Tools utility that comes with the drive. You may need to find some older drivers. Perhaps on your old system software cds?

You will only need the older iomega driver for it to work. The other software can be left out of it.

yeah, the regular zip should be ok with os 7.5 at least, with older drivers. I had one hooked up to my lcIII with os 7.6 running, and it was fine...

I also know that at previous jobs 5 years ago, the PPC's were running os 7.5 and had zips...

go forth and seek out older drivers....

if you can't find, let me know, I may have the old floppy running around somewhere.

I recently bought a used 7600 running 7.5.5 that had an internal zip drive installed, thing worked fine. Upgraded it to 8.1, still worked fine. Pulled it and popped it into my j700, still no probs.

FWIW, the basement at dealmac.com lists a site (compgeeks.com?) that has bare used internal scsi zip drives for $29. I keep part of my mp3 archive on zips; they're fast enough to play the mp3s without copying them to the hard drive. (niiiice)

I have tried using an Apple Mac LC 575 with Iomega's SCSI Zip Drive under Mac OS 7.6 and Mac OS 8.1. I'm not sure if it worked well under System 7.5 (can't remember well), but I think it did. I sure wish there were an ATA/IDE solution, though.
