Im so curious to know what the switches are for... do you have any idea what they are for?

The switches control the click resistance. Turn the ring one way and it becomes harder to click, turn it the other way and you can click with less pressure.

wow !! seems like I dont like to read manuals, I just discovered that bit at the end of the users guide of the iMac

gosh It gets tiring after you´ve been a couple of minutes with the hard position, I wonder if its good to exercise in the morning for 10 mins and then change to the soft position for working... ;D good to warm up ! Thanks Apple !!! Now my freehand sessions will be faster cos I can warm up just before , and with no need of additional Hardware.

Well, actually, wouldn't you want to warm up on the softest setting and increase the resistance throughout the day?
