My rodent (Kensington Optical Pro Mouse-in-a-box) has recently developed a case of itchy trigger finger.

It seems a little out of control -- or overly sensitive - selecting things i don't want to. Draggin things into folders I don't want to. I'm usually very accurate, but recently I've been having a lot of problems like this.

I've tried to slow thinsg down in preferences, and of course i've turned off Gravite 2.0.2. But the over-eager mouse problems continue. Especially dragging folders from one folder to another or across volumes.

any similar experiences / solutions out there?

First off, if you have an early model of this mouse, they had known bugs, and Kensington was replacing them free of charge. I had one of these, it habitually double clicked in error among other things. http://www.macfixit.com/archives/jul...ml#mouse-07-20
If you are within the "right" serial number group, they will replace it for free.
Secondly, if this is not the solution, make sure your mouseworks software is up to date. I believe it should be v5.6. You don't mention what OS you're running, I think they were having a problem with OS9.1 and earlier versions of their software. http://www.macfixit.com/reports/macos9.1-a.shtml#mice
Lastly, if these solutions don't apply to your situation, try trashing the mouseworks preferences. You'll have to reset them, of course. Good luck.

well I'll be.. Thanks for the link, this kind of describes it:

All but one of the customers has reported a problem where eventually the left hand mouse button becomes erratic, often interpreting a single click as a double click, and triggering up and down button movements during drags which result in drags either failing or incorrect items being selected. This fault appears to grow worse over time

We have also found that pressing a little harder than normal tends to insure the operation is performed correctly, however the force needed is far too uncomfortable to use all the time.

I'm having a similar problem with my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. I'm using OS X 10.1.5 on a G4 450, and single clicks are often interpreted as double-clicks. I tried clicking with different pressures and pressing at various angles, but it makes no difference--it seems to be random. I tried removing the Microsoft driver, with no luck, then installed an updated MS driver, and still no improvement.

I didn't notice it happening in OS 9 (although I spend little time in 9), but it does happen in Classic apps running in X, so I've wondered if this is an OS X incompatibility.

Is it just me?

Rick
