I ain't going to get one now, but I'd like one nonetheless. However, if I do get one later, here's my wishlist (even if it is premature at this point).

1) 10-20 GB hard drive
2) SPDIF output
3) Equalizer function with EQ bypass.
4) 8-10 hour battery despite the larger drive
5) Windows support (at least for file transfer) (Don't shoot me! )

Actually, I'd be happy with just number 1 and 2.

I just payed 400 for this thing and I am happy I could give a rats ass if they expand the HD another 5 gigs, and SPDIF? my headphone jack with RCA converters work just as well I am happy and would not by another even if it was 250.

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

larger HD
lower price

they need the lower price to stay competitive....even if they intro a 2gig model, they need to get it to atleast $300, if not less

I want a mic jack, ability to record in aiff or mp3, and a 10 GB drive. Since my library is 7 gigs its annoying that I can't sync my iPod. I would also like a file browser so that you could at least see what's on your iPod, if not preview the contents. I would also like some more buttons. I feel like there should be a couple more, I don't know why. . .

See
this thread.

If the firmware is anything to go by, 2 and 3 will happen sooner or later. What is the betting those little pins around the headphone socket are the digital out for this puppy?

Now, it would be nice if Apple made these functions appear for us early adopters!

Kinda like the expansion bay on the original Bondi iMacs?

My question is what real good would a SPDIF connection do for you? I know that it would keep things "digital" while going into your Amp at home (assuming that you have digital-in jacks)... The only thing I've ever really found SPDIF good for was copying CDs to MDs or connecting two DAT machines...

Also, the little contacts I believe are for an external remote that may come out in the future. I read a thread here about someone hooking their in-line remote from their discman and being able to control the volume (but nothing else). Who knows if that was true or not, but it seems like these contacts would be for something along those lines (especially since they are wrapped around the "line-out/headphone" jack and a "standard" digital coax cable wouldn't fit).

Oh my god. 10 - 20 gig's don't even exist! The 5 gig 1.8" was a breakthrough. You are going to be one of those people that wait around for the next model and never end up getting one.

I have 2 receivers and a separate speaker system with SPDIF in jacks, and a friend has a MiniDisc with SPDIF. One of the systems is hooked up to an MP3 receiver which streams filez over the network. The quality is no better than what an iPod would be via analogue, but it's definitely more convenient. However, if the iPod 2 came with a SPDIF jack I'd probably just sell the MP3 receiver.

Well, a 10 GB is already available, but it's 3 mm thicker and I dunno if it will fit in an iPod. You probably saw my other thread where I'm encoding at 256 kbps, so I'm gonna want the space.

We already have 1 GB compact flash microdrives so here's hoping for a 15 GB drive in the 5 GB iPod form factor by the end of 2002.

But how much does it cost?

Perhaps you shouldn't encode at 256 kbps when you listen to them primarily on your iBook and future iPod.

When you do listen to them on the Stereo is 160 kbps gonna kill you or make the music sound like crap?

Sure you CAN hear a slight difference, but so what. It is not like it is hissing, cracking and makes the song less enjoyable.

My biggest problem with the iPod is it's price. I'm not comfortable spending $400 on what should clearly be a $450-480 priced item. When the price is adjusted accordingly, I may take the plunge. The guilt of under-paying for such an awesome product would be too much to bear.

Well after a few days of using my iPod the things i'd want in a second vrevision would be:

• bigger HD (5gig is not enough - I want to take all my MP3's with me! )

• Remote for volume/next track etc on earphones.

• Earphones, the current ones are ok, brilliant sound quality, but arent too compfy and are a bit big.

• Crossfading. not bothered about and equalizer, never use them, people spend ages in studios to get the song sounding like they want it, no need to go ruining it witha eq settings.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

What "clearly be a $450-480 priced item". You do know that JUST the hard drives sells for the exact same price as the iPod.

Oh wait, you want Apple to give them away at a loss right.

It seems we have different needs. My iBook already has 8 GB of stuff on it and I bought it just a few weeks ago. Please also remember that the iPod is not going to used only for music. One of the big pluses for me is the fact that I can stick hundreds of megs of files on it too.

Eh? What you say!? Actually, if an iPod came out tomorrow with 15 GB and SPDIF for US$500, I'd buy it.

aaanorton was being facetious saying that he wanted to pay MORE. He was indicating that he thought the iPod was UNDERpriced at $400 - hence the $450-$480 item remark. Sheesh.

It would be lovely to have a larger drive on the iPod - but c'mon. I have a little over 30Gb of mp3's on my computer, and while it would be nice to have them all with me, I probably listen to 10-20% on a truly regular basis.

I have several specific playlists set to sync. I have a HOT playlist of the stuff I am listening to a lot right now, and I have a general iPod playlist where I dump everything else that I want on the device. If I run out of space I just look over what I haven't listened to in a while - I really haven't felt constricted by the 5Gb drive.

Besides, the battery will run out before you can listen to it all anyway

It would be nice to have the ability to burn CDs via the Firewire port on the iPod. This would certainly put it in a class of its own from any other MP3 player.

This thread should be limited to people who own the ipod.

You can't know how cool it is by checking it out for 5 minutes at the store and looking at jpegs on the apple website.

THIS IS THING IS BREAKTHROUGH. i scoff at the archos jukebox and creative jukebox.

The only thing that i would want is a bigger hard drive. It's not necessary though, i appreciate the 5 gigs.

i don't need a equilizer, no extra buttons, lines out or anything else. PERFECT.

To anyone who thinks there should be changes or upgrades to the iPod - where the hell are you coming from! Your the kind of people that always say there going to get or do something and never do!
If you don't have have one, don't bitch about it here
I just paid over $840 Australian for mine ( I'am Currently in the US )
so $399 US seems fine to me. I damn grateful to have it so soon.
Version 2 will be better but for Gods sake lets enjoy Version 1

Enjoy the iPod for what it acctually is and not what you dream it should be!
I for one am happy Thankyou Steve Jobs and Co
And let those Windows users WEEP!!!!!
if you can't be part of the solution don't be part of the problem!!!!

I love the iPod, and would love to have one, but I don't plan on getting one soon. Not because I want something more in it, but rather because I'm just a poor college student with other things I need to get.

I would however like to see some things on the iPod, but nothing I couldn't live without. These in no way make me not want one, but rather things I'd like to see on future revisions.

1) Radio tuner
2) Voice and other recording ability
3) 10 gig drive (I don't have 5 gigs of MP3's currently, but 10 would be nice as I continue to expand)
4) some kind of beltclip and/or case (I'd be afraid I would drop it or i would get dirty .)
5) A color LCD display for diplaying pictures and movies (not entire movies, but like small Quicktime movies such as trailers), plus a single composite output for connection to a television(like on the TiBook) (although this would be good on an Apple PDA (I wish), but draining on the batteries)

-Natron

Some owners of it now want upgrades. And for some of us the iPod 1 doesn't do what we want it to do so we are avoiding buying it. It's good but it's still US$400. For $400-500 I'd want more and will wait for when those features appear.

How about a iPod firmware update to allow you to set it to come on as an alarm clock...When I bought my SBLive (piece of crap Creative) I also bought the FPS2500 speakers, so my older set of CSW computer speakers + sub got moved to the bedside...Wouldn't it be great to be able to set the iPod to wake you up with a random song from a playlist at whatever time you set??

The only problem I had with my 'Pod is the damn-fingerprints, so I pulled the back off and bead blasted it, giving it a light frosted look. The last time I wiped it down was last week, and that's 'cause the front was smudged.
It's the perfect MP3 player and now it's stunningly beautiful too.

I had been reading these posts with interest, wondering about the shortcomings that have been hashed over. I decided three days ago to put my RioVolt up on ebay and buy an iPod.

Night and day PERIOD. Nothing compares. I suppose I may want more later, but after 2 days, I am hopelessely in love with this thing. I have about 30 gigs of MP3, but choosing my favorite 5 has been a good experience, I can't complain about space.

An EQ, well I'm using big earmuff headphones and I don't miss it.

A tuner, ahh, yes that would be nice to keep up with news.

But the point is that this is a awesome player, enough to make my coworkers green with envy. Style until Tuesday. Did I say Awesome?

Anybody holding off should reconsider, this thing gives me the same goosebumps as when my cable modem got hooked up, or when I first used my Palm, or when I burned my first "mix" CD-R and realized how cool things have become.

Say what you will, but if I lost mine, I'd be in the store tomorrow.

The only thing keeping me from buying an iPod is the fact that I can't take it in my car. So if anyone from Apple is listening, make sure iPod 2 has a short range FM transmitter

I'd like an "Albums" category since some albums are put together by various artists, and it forces me to make a playlist for an album.

Burning from Firewire would be nice, but not mainstream enough (external drive only).

No it doesn't. Go to Artists, and click all. This will list all albums regardless of which artists have tracks on them. This has been covered extensively.

Well, Yesterday I was a Windows XP User. but I fell in love with the 10GB iPod and xPlay just didn't cut it so I also bought an iBook just to keep the iPod updated, and now I'm in love with OS X and the iBook.

I still have the XP computer, but it won't be used as much now.
