I'm possibly going to ask for an iPod for christmas (just like Jobs fortold..)
I got my Ti, and bloody 2 months later the new ones came out and i was really really mad
how long until we see another iPod?
also what type of features can be updated through the iPod software? EQ? Bass boost that all these people want?
thanks

I don't think there will be an iPod 2 for quite some time. IE it's likely to be well over a year, maybe 2, maybe never! However, just like Apple's computer's, it is very likely to be revised. Which will probably amount to no more than a larger HD. And that kind of change i'd guess would be around 6 months or so away.

What you should be asking is "when will ipod firmware 2.0 be out?" and what Apple should be answering is "soon." And at that point Apple fanatics will then ask "when will ipod firmware 3.0 be out?"... ad nauseam.

the only reason that you Ti book was updated was becasuse it was almost a year old and no impovements, I belive that this will also hold true with the ipod right now we are paying for the drive itself and if we were going to get a lager one not enough people would be willing to pay the large price tag so it will stay the same untill the drive will drop a considerble amount so apple with make some money with it.

the next update probalby will be the introduction of maybe a 2gig one for maybe 300 and maybe the 5 gig at 375....if apple wants to keep this product alive, it needs to intro a lower priced one......there are only so many people who are going to buy the current ipod......if there is no update, then the demand for them reduces greatly......basically, they need to intro a lower priced model in the next 6 months-year to keep the product.....
i agree with Euphrates.....i'm waiting for a major firware update.....there are many possibilities for the ipod.....it doesn't just have to be a mp3 player and portable HD.....i hope apple figures out how to make this product more than it is now......there seems to be a lot of potential for it

As long as we're speculating....
This cool little package is a complete digital processing system, but with some limitations (currently) as a general purpose platform....but, based on what we're all reading, the packaging and motherboard layout (empty socket) will permit functional expansion. By adding a larger screen, a very powerful PDA is a software download away...:-) Sure, there will be a trade-off for memory utilization, but with different "modes" possible, the 5G drive can hold LOTS of datebook/etc. stuff. And, the rotary wheel is an easy-to-use cursor control that could work with a graphical "keypad" for the limited data entry needs of a PDA (neater than using a stylus, too). Not to mention saving jpegs (even mpegs?) for showing folks your trip pics (with a color screen, of course). And, the disk will obviously be upgradeable...
So, HOW they bring this to market is gonna be fun to watch...those of us who are enjoying iPod now paid for being early adopters, and I suspect we'll see some firmware upgrades in the next 6 months (transfer of EQ settings on a per-song basis - already in iTunes, for example). After that, they'll launch the larger screen version and drop the price of the original (justified by the new functionality of the iPod2), and move it into the price level "everyone" thinks is more suitable ($299?)...also offering the disk upgrades then. :-)
IMHO, this is a whole new market segment for Apple...an "end-run" on the Evil Ones....with iTunes, iDisk, iDVD, etc, they'll have a nimble set of feature packages to load on to this new "digital hub" device....
Should you buy one now?....if you enjoy music and want to have ALL of your tunes with you all the time...$399 is a bargain for the pleasure, the coolness and watching your friends drool...
On your mark, get set....
Sorry for the long post.

The next iPod will be out next Friday. It'll sport 5 new flavors of colors. Apple will mark down the old one to $389 making it still unaffordable for many of us.
