New Christmas gifts -- new ISight for family of 4 households. Two tigers 10.4 and two panthers 10.3. One panther worked with the two tigers, but not with other panther. Both tigers worked well with each other and with one other panther. The other panther worked well with the two tigers but not the other panther. All tried direct modem connect. Firewalls were turned off. One panther upgraded to tiger but it didn't help. The other panther has ordered a tiger upgrade. Instant messaging works great for all. Phone contact with a Mac rep so far hasn't helped. Any ideas ?? THANKS !!

Wait... modem? Video requires broadband.

But I have found that network problems cause the problems, not compatibility between tiger and panther. Things like uncooperative routers and firewalls are the worst.

There's a huge and very helpful number of help files and faqs on apple's ichat forums. that's the place to go for info so that there's no need to reinvent the wheel.

Still having a problem. All 4 of family set-ups now have Tiger -- two can connect with all the others -- the remaining two can connect with all others except no video with each other. After much study of all the chat on the forums, discussions with Mac reps, ISP reps, etc., one of the ISP DSL modems (BellSouth) is suspect -- maybe one or more ports are not allowing the connection although iSight is working great with the other family computers-- instant messaging works fine for everyone. The other ISP is frontiernet. All routers (wireless and cable) have been disconnected and the computers are connected directly to the DSL modems. This wheel needs to be reinvented. deebob255

What are the tech specs on your computers? Perhaps it is an incompatibility.
All this talk about panthers and tigers is funny. You make it sound like a short story.
