Hi,

I have been given a LaserWriter II that may or may not work. I am wondering what I should do in order to see if it works. I have a PB [Pismo] with 2 Firewire and 2 USB ports and when I look at the back of the LaserWriter II I can't even tell what kind of connector or cable to buy.

Please help I am not an expert at these types of things, but if I can get it to work I would be grateful. BTW, I also was given an HP 310 and I believe I need to buy PowerPrint to use this printer ... is this true?

Thanks again and please respond.

Philip.

You'll need a USB to Serial adapter to connect to the Appletalk port on the Laserwriter. You'll need a Laserwriter driver in your extensions folder, which you probably already have (under OS 9). Before you spend money on a USB to Serial adapter, try to find someone with an older Mac which has serial ports and test the printer. You wouldn't want to buy the adapter just to find out the printer doesn't work. BTW, I have an Apple Laserwriter II I bought in 1989 and it's still going strong. I print about 300 pages a month with it.
