I'm going to be moving in a few months and I'm really excited at this opportunity to finally buy some new furniture. My computer desk is the center of my life, so that's the big decision. It needs to be big (either L-shaped or U-shaped if I have room), and deep, so my Cinema Display can stand up and still leave plenty of room for my very large keyboard and whatever else I need to put in front of that.
Roughly, I need room for:
Powerbook (ahem, by then maybe a Macbook...) on an iCurve
23" old-school Cinema Display
Desktop computer tower of the PC-variety (sorry)
Assorted joysticks when playing games
Printer
Scanner
Room for small peripherals like iPod, PDA, etc.
Shelf space for manuals, cd racks, tools and assorted stuff
Please note I'm not looking for a "nice" desk. I'm going to be modifying it a lot with built-in power strips, cable management, etc. so a pretty finish is not going to be pretty once I get it. And it needs to be wood so I can screw stuff into the back of it.
If you found one you love, or have built one yourself, and have a picture to share (or can link to your post in a "show your setup" thread), I'd love to see it and know where you got it, but mostly I just want to know where a good place to look is. The office furniture sites I've gone to don't have quite what I need -- either too fancy, or not enough room, shelves are too small, etc. I'd love to know if there's a brand or site that sells good desks for gamers and/or computer geeks with lots of stuff. Thanks for any leads or ideas you can provide!
