Has anyone used the new Microtek 3800 scanner? I haven't been able to find a review of it. I have a 3750i that I am not happy with. I also had an earlier Microtek model that I returned in exchange for the 3750i. I'm hoping that the 3800 will be an improvement, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any recommendations for high-quality, low cost flatbed scanners? Perhaps HP or Umax? One of my requirements is slide scanning capability. I couldn't care less about buttons.

Canon and Minolta both make slide scanners for around $400 which have gotten good reviews for their price range. They are both supported under OS X with Vuescan. (I don't think that high quality and low cost can be used in the same sentence, at least in regards to slide scanners.)

Well, I'm very happy with my Microtek X6, but it seems the range you're looking for is above that...
