I need to pick up a scanner promptly, that I can have a Auto Feeder with. So far I have really only seen 2 that seem realistic for the price. The Epson 1640 SU and the HP 7400 ScanJet.

The Epson 1640 SU has the Auto Feeder included for around $490. So the cost is better but the auto feeder only holds 30 pages and scans only 5 pages per minute.

The HP ScanJet 7400c, you have to buy the Auto Feeder seperate. So the total cost for the scanner and feeder is about $680. The advantage is it holds 50 pages and scans up to 15 pages per minute.

Any thoughts on which one to go with. Is the software much better on one that eliminates the other right away?

I need to scan approx - 300 pages or more a day. So that is why the HP sounds nice because of the speed. But I could handle a slower speed if the Epson is the better route.

Any help is really appreciated!!

I would go Epson all the way. They make great scanners and the software is simple and unbeatable.

Thanks for your input. I have used Epsons printer software and that seems to work fine. Is there any other ideas on a scanner to go with besides the Epson and the HP?

BTW: The Epson one is called '1640 SU Office'

I would like to hear any other ideas before I purchase. Thanks!
