OK, the christmas sales are starting and I still don't have a LCD monitor for my DP533! What's going on!

Anyhow, I'm ready to go LCD and get rid of my blueberry 17 inch monitor... The real question is which one to buy..

Obviously there is the Apple 17 at $900 (ed discounted), but it has a short 1 year warranty and is basically an old tech screen from what I understand, using non-Super-MVA technology (still a great display though!)

Then there is the new formac 1740, which does use Super-MVA for better contrast. It DOES support ADC, and has a better warranty at $850-$899, but I haven't talked to anyone who has seen one yet to tell me how it REALLY looks.

Then there is the Planar 17.4 DVI..Again, Super-MVA 400:1 contrast, digital input, etc.. And great cross-ship planar 3 year warranty... The big plus is Dell is selling them, including the translucent blue and white ones for around $660 or $680 shipped...

Comments, recs?

Planar used to exhibit at one of my company's conferences, and we ended up with 3 of their 15 inch LCD screens as part of a barter. The quality was never that great, also I was able to fix most of it by really fine tuning the Mac's color correction (The Windows machines were really out of luck there). Also, one by one they began to fail, one will not turn on at all, and two have this crazy banding on the screen that makes them useless. This was within 2 years of getting the screens.

Now, Planar makes displays for medical and military solutions, so you would imagine their stuff should be of some quality, but in my experience, I would not be able to reccommend them.
