This got my indignation stirring on a lazy Sunday morning's surfing:

Despite having the Welcome to iPod graphic plastered on their home page for the last 4 weeks (and no tribute to George Harrison either), the iPod itself appears to be STILL not available locally in Australia.

But, to add further insult to Australian appleophiles, if you click on...
http://www.apple.com.au/giftguide/

...then click the "Music" gift category and scroll down, they are promoting the Creative Nomad II MP3 Player as being the ultimate in music playing Christmas gifts.

Anyone else of the opinion that Apple Australia should just close down and let us mail order stuff into the country?

With that sort of promotion of the mother ship's products, it's little wonder that local journalists-of-little-brain continually write the company off...

"It is becoming increasingly clear that we are heading for a world in which there are only two operating systems Windows and Linux. [...] And then there is Apple, which continues on its idiosyncratic path to oblivion."

[Don't worry, the guy's a notorious idiot. The only problem is that some even more idiot IT managers read him and think he knows what he's talking about.]

Yes we all (aussies) know there are problems with getting the iPod into AU. My friend at apple said just that, they are all being sent to the US to meet demand. The iPod is not expected here until like LATE december - how then can apple AU say the iPod is the ultimate CHRISTMAS gift when it wont be out in time? And no they can't just "hurry it up".

Like it or not, this is NOT apple AU's fault, its whoever allocates which countries get how many units of the products, and I'd bet for sure that thats a division in apple US.

I feel ur pain tho, I wan't one badly too :/

It's okay, I've calmed down now. Yeah, I suppose it's to be expected when we're like < 1% of the Apple market.

Actually I believe it's Steve Jobs who PERSONALLY has a grudge against us. Probably Johnny Ive told him what Bondi is REALLY like. "I'll get 'em back for ya, mate, it'll be 2-3 months delay for new products from now on."

No, that doesn't work -- there's ALWAYS been at least a 2-3 month delay for every Apple product I've ever bought here (and I've bought an alarming amount since the early 80s )

Anyway, I have a theory about why Apple Australia's web page is updated so infrequently: they lost so much money from the Buzzle debacle that they can only afford to get the web designer in once a month...

Oh well, at least thank your mate at Apple Aust. for having the iBook ad re-dubbed.
