I've got an iMac G5 with a number of USB peripherals (iPod Dock, camera cable, printer, joystick). I really like to keep my desk neat, I detest clutter. I've looked at all the USB hubs out there, I will probably grab one that complements the iMac. But I was wondering what you all do about the cable mess...I'm using wire zip ties for now, but I thought maybe there was a USB hub out there that had some kind of extra housing to tuck cables in??
I know I'm fussing, like I said I just hate clutter...if you've got a neat setup post a pic!
TIA.

Velcro. There are Velcro-brand straps on the market (I've seen them in the hardware section of a local grocery store, but you can also find them in other places) that are great for this sort of thing. They come in a variety of colors too, so you can use different colors for different devices.
Coil the cables and bundle them with a Velcro strap and they stay neatly in place. If you have several going to pretty much the same place, you can bundle all the bundles together too. This helps reduce confusion and clutter, but also makes it easier to just unplug ONE item without having to dig through all the cables to see what's what.

Good thought, thanks! The main problem are the longer cables, even bundled up they are bulky. May look into some kind of housing to put under the USB hub to tuck the cables into.

Or buy short USB cables. Many online sources have them cheap. (I've never used them, but www.pccables.com has really good prices and a good selection, and it has good reviews. Edit: they don't seem to have short USB cables at the moment, it seems. )

I recently bought a plastic "box" at CompUSA called "Cablizer" by Acot. It was only $10 which was very reasonable. Inside it contains cable ways, clamps and straps to sort and organize the pile of cables. They are also designed to be stackable if you need more than one.

I've stopped using cable ties, re-arranged my devices instead. It's quite tidy in terms of cables, all I need is a bigger desk.
