Hi,
I am looking for a way to get sound from a ATi XClaim TV module into a Quicksilver G4.
I installed the XClaim VR 128 card from my old 8600 into a new Quicksilver (second monitor). I am able to get TV video into the computer by connecting to it the XClaim TV tuner module (part of the XClaim VR package). But I have trouble getting TV audio.
XClaim TV uses the microphone jack (standard size, not the longer PlainTalk size, although it does use the same jack on the back of the 8600) to get audio into the computer, which the Quicksilver obviously does not have.
I tried the Griffin iMic, but XClaim TV's output is way too low for line input to be usable. iMic's microphone setting somehow doesn't work, either. I think it has something to do with XClaim TV trying to emulate the PlainTalk microphone, which iMic expressly does not support.
The only way I can *sort of* get it to work, is by piping the signal through a PHONO pre-amp before the iMic. But the audio is a little distorted, since the pre-amp is equalized for turntables. Also, the closed caption got lost in the shuffle. It does, however, prove that if I can find a way to amplify the audio signal, this whole set up can work.
I e-mailed ATi, they just sent me their Macintosh FAQ (it appeared they didn't even bothered to _read_ my message). I have tried their XClaim TV USB edition, but its video quality is far inferior to the PCI alternative.
So, how do I get sound from the XClaim TV into a Quicksilver?
Any and all experiences, suggestions, speculations, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Alwin
