Hi there

I'm trying to take this retched dell 2005fpw (it's my third one...) off it's stand, to put it back in its box - my 2405 is arriving tomorrow (if that thing squeals.... i'll break something) which the delivery guy is exchanging for mine.

You usually press the button on the back of the screen and lift up and the screen will come off the stand, so it can fit in the box.

But my button won't go 'in'. It's stuck. I can't get it off its stand. It was a replacement from dell a couple of weeks back and it came like that - no box, just a delivery driver gave it to me - it was just bubble wrapped and on its stand.

Am i being thick here? Is there a lock for the button? It's driving me mad. Had nothing but nightmares with these damn monitors.

Thanks

Edd

Odd that it came like that... but I'd guess if it came like that, it's leaving like that.

What has been wrong with your 2005s? The FCP issue?

hi there. it came like that... so i assumed that's just 'how they came' when dell replaced them.

i'm a logic pro user not fcp, so i didn't run into that - but in fact it was the backlight issue that bugged me. also, the ones i received were definately not NEW, and i paid for a new unit. lastly, all these displays (including the apple 20's i think) have a red/purple hue to them when viewing black backgrounds. i just was sick of the whole quality of the 20's so paid double the amount and tried to get the 24. i hope it's ok.

my problem is that obviously it won't fit into its box like this, and the delivery guy isn't going to pick up the 20 if it's not in a box... argh for gods sake, this has been nothing but a nightmare. i am willing to wager that the 24 has some kind of a 'problem'.

You may be able to get the button to pop by giving the monitor a good smack. I've never had to return a Dell screen, but I'd just wrap it up as you received it (the carrier accepted it that way the first time).

Dell sells their refurbs at the outlet store, so your first one should have been new.

I have a 1900FP or whatever at work. When I assembled it, the telescope button got stuck. I jiggled the stand a little and it got loose. Get jiggy wit' it!

no dice... i've hit (firmly, but gently) with a hammer and it's not budging.

the problem is that the guy who is picking it up/exchanging for the 24 tomorrow is just a courier guy, the guy who gave me this monitor (already on a stand) last time was a 'dell guy'. so the courier guy ain't gonna give me the 24 unless he picks up the 20, and he won't accept the 20 if it's not boxed up.

BRILLIANT.

hi there

in fact, i bought it from www.itcsales.co.uk - not dell. they are an authorised reseller though.

of course, i'll call them first thing tomorrow morning, but i think it's going to mean i have to wait another few days until everything gets sorted.

no fair

I had this problem also on a 2005, the trick was to press/hold the release button and pull UP on the screen, preferably at the same time. This will dislodge it, and then you can push it down. You might need a second person to hold the base and press the button while you pull up. It takes some force, but don't overdo it, it could be wedged so hard that you might break something

no... no dice. it's not a case of shaking it or anything, the button will not go 'in' at all. i've really pressed hard. it's not moving anywhere!

that's why i thought there might be some kind of 'lock' mechanism.... but no. like i say it was really easy on the other two screens i tried, so i've done it before plenty of times...

oh well, only 3 hours til the store opens. guess i should get some sleep eh?

With my button, I think there was just too much pressure from the weight of the LCD. When I lifted the LCD, it lessened the pressure on the button and it was "engageable."
