Hi

The Alu Displays have been out for a while now (i think since 2003?) - do you think new screens could be out soon?

I'd be happy with a dell 2405 (fingers crossed, arrives tomorrow), but it's for my brother.

I think now's a bad time to buy an alu cinema display...?

Cheers

The aluminum displays were released on 6/2004 (previous revision was last updated on 1/2003). I doubt we'll see anything but incremental upgrades (better backlights, newer panel revisions for lower response times and better contrast) for quite a while.

Hi - even with the new HD stuff coming out?

Spec wise the new dell 30 incher and 2407 (coming very soon) blow the apple specs away... will they really just leave the specs as they are?

Cheers

If by specs you're talking about the stand and video inputs, I've seen no indication from Apple that they're interested in improving either.

If you're talking about brightness, contrast, and response time, then as I said I expect Apple to make incremental (possibly even silent) upgrades.

I wonder if Apple will start putting iSights in them.

no, i meant the fact that the new dell range has HDCP support

then there's the isight issue

plus, the specs of the 20inch panel in the imac are better than the 20 cinema display

i didn't mean a redesign of the case etc, but generally is an upgrade expected... sometime soon?

As I said, Apple has shown zero interest in other video input options. The ACDs don't have speakers, so I dont see a need for HDMI.

The built-in iSights have inherent limitations (like fixed focus lenses), so I'd expect Apple to keep them out of their "pro" screens.

I think any discrepancy there will be fixed with update, possibly silent.
