I've just bought a new iMac and I'm adjusting to OSX. I was using an external CD Burner with my old machine and I wanted to hook the burner up to my new machine. The burner is s Que USB and it came with a version of Toast, Toast 4 if I recall.
I installed the software on the new iMac but it just couldn't see the Que. A friend suggested using Toast Titanium and so I loaded that. Still no good. I've use Toast Titanium to "search" for the external burner but it just tells me that there is only one burner it can recognize and that's the one in the iMac.

What do I do?

I don't have OS X, however you may be able to access your burner through OS 9. Do you have Classic?
If so, you need to disable some extensions via the Extensions Manager control panel. Disable Diskburner, FireWire Authoring Support, and USB Authoring Support. This will incapacitate the Apple DiskBurner application, but once Toast recognizes your burner, you can use Toast for all your burn needs.

A big piece of the puzzle may be that the Que! USB burners have a dismal track record when it comes to OS X; IIRC it's because there's an incompatibility between the OS and the back panel IDE interface.

I gave up waiting for Apple or QPS to resolve the issue so I bought an external FireWire case and transplanted the burner into it; now OS X sees the burner and I'm also free of the speed limitations inherent in using a USB connection with a CD burner.

Thanks guys but none of the things you have suggested have worked. Going the firewire case solution sounds like the way to go but I have no idea how to do it?
