Refilling HP ink cartridges??

Hey,

I thought I'd try to save a few bucks by getting an ink refill kit from CarrotInk.com. I'd heard of possible problems with refilling these HP cartridges, but there must be a few of you out there who've had success.

So, what's the trick. I followed the directions (something I don't often do) but the cart is leaking all over the place, through what might be the print head.

Any pointers? Should I just chalk it up to experience and shell out the $$ for a new cartridge?

Thanks,
Storyboy

PS: I have a DeskJet 812C.

i tried refilling an ink cartridge once many many years ago and achieved about the same results you report. seemingly easy to do, but you always end up with a leaking mess.

i only use laser printers anymore so i dont deal with those damned things.

Refilling ink cartridges is false economy. The HP cartridges have the print head built in, and the head is only designed for a certain life span, thus you're putting ink in a cartridge with a worn out head, which is like trying to put racing fuel in an engine with leaky valves and piston rings; it ain't gonna help. Also, most printer manufacturers formulate their own inks to match their papers, and refilling ink cartridges with unknown ink can lead to very erratic printing results, especially if you're dealing with graphics and photo printing, where quality is important.
