Would it be beneficial at all to have a RAID 0 over 1394a? Im purchasing a macbook and theres no FW800 and I was concidering this enclosure:

No, there'd be no benefit, since a single drive can saturate FW400. And remember that "RAID" 0 increases your probability of data loss compared to a single drive.

I'll second what tooki said.

I'd take a look at getting an ExpressCard SATA controller (about $30) and a pair of external SATA enclosures (about $25 each). Much better performance than FW400 or even FW800 can offer, but as always with RAID0 you double the chance of losing your data (make backups!).

I third tooki's advice and second mduell's. You might even find a dual SATA enclosure to reduce clutter. SATA is a hot-swappable interface (if the adapter is properly implemented) AND it's made so you can use the same cables inside or out of the computer case. It's ideal for external RAID arrays.
