I recently bought Toast 5 Titanium hoping to use CD Spin Doctor to turn all my old LP's into CD's. I thought I had the right ports and all, bought the program, connected it, nothing happened! Checked manual, it said MICROPHONE JACK! i dont have one of those on my powerbook! does a peripheral exist that allows me to use a usb port as a microphone jack, not a microphone itself? ANY HELP APPRECIATED!

The iVoice from Macally is sold to cure your problem. You just plug it into your USB port and you can plug the Mic into it. I got one of the Geffen (Griffen?) ones for my wife's iBook and haven't been that happy with the sound quality. I waited for this current TiG4 because it includes the port. If you can find a firewire one instead, that would be preferable.

Here's more info on the MacAlly iVoice and Griffin iMic:
http://www.macally.com/spec/usb/inpu...ce/ivoice.html
http://www.griffintechnology.com/audio/imic_main.html

Also, based on what others have said, the iVoice should work in OS X (maybe email the company or call to make sure). The Griffin iMic definitely works with X:
