I just had it delivered...and can say that it is perfect in every way...!!
It is the first Apple LCD I have had with no dead pixels (after 4 attempts!), but what is striking is the sharpness of the image and pure colours the screen displays...
It is just awesome...
Anyone who is thinking of purchasing a 17" LCD - you won't be disappointed if you chose a studio display...
Peace
Marc
Edited because picture was *way* too big...

i got a 15 incher a few weeks ago and while it may pale in comparison to a 17 i love it. besides a great picture you have to love the whole single cable for power, video signal and usb. that just plain rocks

Great photo, thanks!
I'm seriously considering the purchase of the 17" Studio Display too, but I've been worried about the pixel response time and haven't been able to get any conclusive answer.
If you're doing something on your machine that involves fast-moving images (editing video, watching movies, or maybe just playing shooter games), could you give me a quick word if there's any sight of ghosting or muddy color in motion?

I've jun a few DVDs (and DIVX stuff), played a few games (RTCW, Q3, Unreal T etc), and messed around with some basic DV stuff...
I can find no fault at all in the performance...I mostly do Photoshop stuff so am not too aware of what the standards in DV are, but to my untrained eye the performance is excellent! The games and the DVD (Ronin - Parisian pursuit scene in particular) have never looked better...
After much examination, the only 'blurring' I have noticed, occurs when a window is moved *very* fast in OS X, and even then it is absolutely minimal...
I had a look around the Mac games forum, they seem pretty demanding down there (!), and found a few links that may help your decision somewhat...
Games forum links...
I have just moved from a Lacie 19" Electron Blue III, which I thought was excellent, but I can honestly say the Studio Display has blown me away
Peace

I must admit the 17 inch is a very nice display, but it sadly does not looks as good, color and brightness wise as the 22 inch. I have them both in the same room, and the 17 inch really is worse quality enough to be seen by the human eye. The resolutions are 1600x1024 for 22, and 1280x1024 for the 17 inch.

Hasta la victoria siempre -
I mean, thanks for the information
Yes, I guess it figures the gamers would be most demanding for pixel response times - my video stuff only needs 50 Hz, but somebody in that thread mentioned 125 fps as the optimum because it matches the data rate of the USB mouse, I think he was only half joking
Vash -
could you elaborate on the quality problem? I've seen the Cinema Display and the 17" Studio Display, but only separately - they seemed pretty equal that way. Is the Studio Display worse on brightness, or color reproduction, or something else...?

Hard to describe, I picked the cinema over the 17" studio.
I still regret it most of the time when I notice the huge color problems and annoying dead pixels. I'd say there's a gradual yellowing from about 1" on on either side of the LCD panel. That's not as bad as my last one was though, before I sent it back the top seemed to be MUCH dimmer than the center
Apple really pisses me off, especially how they are so rude to some of their best customers. (they did it to me and we've spent over 10k in apple products in just 6 months)
Oh yeah, just as a thought, the imac uses the same flat panel as the studio 15"......
Anyhoot, I can tell you this right off the bat, the difference between the imac and the cinema display is phenominal, the cinema wins it even by the most untrained of eyes
The only thing I've ever been annoyed about with LCD panels is their poor white capture, you have to tinker with the colors a little to get it just right
One thing that makes the cinema display better than the studios is the viewing angle, I can look at this from almost straight off to the side and still see everything in perfect color (except black), which seems to always turn purple... I think it's the anti glare coating that causes that. (and it's still very ill noticable)
I do admit though, the cinema display is VERY heavy, almost the same weight as the imac (though the cute imacs are a pain in the arse to carry around).
The studio 17" is great, the color aint half bad, and it was ok, I recall it has a much yellower tint than the cinema display though.
