So I just bought a firewire bridge from this guy on ebay. Its a firewire 800 device. It is my first firewire 800 device so I bought a firewire 800 to 400 cable too so I can hook it up. The cable is brand new in retail packaging from NewEgg. Now when I plug it into the board, the board's 3 connectors are all very very loose, and sparks, yes sparks, shoot from the base of the connectors. At this point I have no means to check if its the cable since it is the only one I have. So I'm wondering what you guys think? Until I can come up with another firewire 800 cable, does it sound more like a bad board and the ebay guy is screwing me over, or does it sound more like a bad cable and newegg is screwing me over? It is a 400 to 800 cable so maybe they got the wires inside messed up? Though this was a cable in retail packaging, it didn't look homemade at all.
If it is the board, I paid with pay pal so at least i know I'm going to..... be totally screwed over
