I'm looking at MacMall and I can't decide between LaCie or QPS. The LaCie, of course, costs more, but I'd rather get Toast Titanium for real rather than pirate it, which leads me toward the LaCie rather than the QPS which provides Discribe.

What do you think? Any experiences with these burners that I should know about?

Also, should I just assume that these drives burn 700MB disks? I don't want to be limited like my friend is with his Zip650 USB. I can't seem to find this information on these drives.

Don't know about the 700MB deal, but I can say I have had QPS and was pleased. However, I've seen lots of complaints about the company, especially where rebates are concerned. I've never seen anybody complain about a LaCie product. If I were in your shoes, I'd go LaCie.

And another thing- I'd avail MacMall like the plague. Do some research, they are a touch shady.

I would also recommend LaCie. Their quality is top notch. My company is a reseller for both and we've had much better luck with LaCie over anyone else, especially QPS.

BTW: I don't know if this is THE best deal, but its a damn good one. I just got the LaCie 32x U&I with shipping for $190 at Dell.com. They are giving 10% discounts which more than covers the shipping, which they also partially provide.

Just in case someone else is buying one.

go the LaCie, I have an old LaCie 8x/20x CD-R hooked up with a firewire-SCSI converter and it still works great.

FWIW, I've had good experiences with ClubMac's own brand of drives. I like LaCie a lot, but am not a big fan of the flip cover on their CDRW drives, and I don't feel like paying for the USB interface which I will never use. Their quality is, however, impeccable. (They bought APS Technologies a while back, which I had used for years, and combined both product lines to come up with a nice one, save for the silly flap I mentioned. At least the flap is sturdily made.)

I just ordered a ClubMac 40x12x48 CDRW FireWire drive for a little over $200. I'll let you know how it is.

BTW I got a LaCie 12X4X32 firewire back in sept 00 (400 buck) and still works very well and I would definatly get a new burner if LaCie would come out with a 40X burner.

At least that's what came with my drive.

I have a LaCie 24x10x40 U&I, and the only complaint I have is that they ship many different mechanisms in their drive. If the drive is compatible with iTunes, be careful because it's only compatible with a certain mechanism. My drive is *supposed* to be compatible, because Apple has support for the Sanyo mechanism, but I had to wait a few weeks for them to add support for my TEAC mechanism.

I should also add that my drive burns 700MB discs fine.
