Is it beneficial to have a smaller or larger aperture grille? I am looking at either a Sony CPD G-400 or 500 as a second monitor. They have a 0.24-0.25 aperture grille, please tell me your thoughts.

How are these monitors compared to the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920 which has a 0.24 aperture grille.

Mitsubishi

Sony

Smaller is better, but is .01 mm really noticeable? I think it can be. But on a second monitor (which rocks, been using that type of setup for over 6 years) I don't think it will matter. Unless the main monitor goes (gasp).

Many of the flatscreen CRTs are actually a variable pitch grille. Although many of today's monitors have Sony trinitron tubes, there are some subtle and not-so-subtle differences in the overall quality between brands. Some of Mitsubishi's monitors have won great praise, yet others didn't get such kind praise in the past.

Be sure to read some reviews (macworld.com, etc.) before plunking down your hard earned cash.

Although I'm using a flat panel LCD, I always give high marks to Sony for overall quallity. Several buddies have them and rave. At work we had NEC 19" displays and they were so-so. Being the tech guy by default, when one NEC crapped out I replaced it with the Sony flat screen 22" CRT (on the company's nickel, of course) and everyone went wild: "How come we didn't have this before?!" Go Sony.
