Hello. I have been using a Mighty Mouse and have loved it...however, recently, the little scroll ball has not been acting right. It seems to want to function only when it feels like it and not when I am trying to get use out of it! Sometimes it will only scroll up or only scroll down and I have to manually take the mouse and move the sidebars in the browser. I don't know why this happened, as I have not been rough with it or anything.

I have tried the following to remedy the problem:

1. Restarted the computer as well as just turning the machine off and turning it back on the next day. Same problem

2. I also tried unplugging the mouse and then plugging it back in.

What I was doing prior to this problem:

Just regular web surfing....it was working fine.

Any ideas? I got the mouse back in December and its recently been being mean to me.

Unfortunately, it is not so easy to clean Mighty Mouse balls. I've had the same problem. All I do is rub the ball a lot in the direction it can go, and then do the opposite and rub it backwards.

Basically, I just keep rubbing it one way and then the other until it gets its act together and starts working normal.

God knows what will happen once it accumulates enough crap and won't even rotate.

I'd suggest rolling a strip of sticky tape along it, to peel up the gunk. I used to do that on the rollers inside old-school mice.
