Last week a friend of mine gave me an Adaptec Power Domain 39160, which I put in the PCI slot 3 of my G4. (Complete computer set up: G4, dual 533, 1.2Gb RAM, and a 40 & 30Gb HD running OS 9.2.2 and OSX 10.1.4 on different drives).
I upgraded the firmware for the power domain card to version 1.2, than I bought a SCSI-3 cable at microcenter and *found* myself a spare 18.2Gb Ultra-3 10K SCSI drive from HP, model number MAJ3182MP.
Low and behold, my question: how do I make this thing run?
I installed the drive, attached power and SCSI-3 cable to the power domain card and restarted my Mac. Upon loading the desktop, it prompted me that is found an unknown drive and asked me if I wanted to format it. I said yes, but it seems to "hang" when performing this operation. I busted out the Drive Setup tool, again, it sees the SCSI drive, but does not let me to format it. Using the apple system profiler, it recognizes he SCSI drive, even tells me it is an HP and gives me the model number. The app also told me that the drivers were unavailable for it.
Than I tried SCSIProbe5.2, which again, recognized the drive, but freezes when trying to mount the drive.
Can anyone help me? Something wrong with the jumper settings? Or is the drive incompatible with the system?
