Can anyone tell me a good postscript printer for under $500. Whichever printer I buy, it needs to print 11x17. Right now, I'm considering the Epson 1270 for $350, but it isn't a postscript. If I go with this, is there a good postscript driver to support it?

I've answered posts like this before. "I want Postscript for peanuts." Forget it. If you want postscript you are going to end up paying at least $750-$1500 for a printer that does it right. If you choose not to, you can rely on third party software, but that always causes headaches for the users that I have worked with on this issue.
The good news is that if you do get a true Postscript printer (and one that acts as a network printer), you will pay more for the printer than the computer you are currently running, but at the same time you will own and use this printer for 10 years.

I'm sorry, I had to chuckle when I read your post. You're not going to find an 11x17 postscript printer in the $500 price range. Jerome is right on when he says up to $1500. Depending upon which format (ink jet, laser, color laser), it can get very expensive, very quickly.

I didn't need 11x17 and went with Lexmark E310/312 for under $400 8 ppm, 600 dpi (1200 image photograde also), and 6000 page toner and after 18 months still on original toner. I've added 16MB RAM (total 18MB) and it is postscript.
the next up the chain of the Lexmark series should work, and I strongly recommend Lexmark. I wish they had these 12 yrs ago when $6500 was the going price.

Actually, Epson makes a postscript package called StylusRip for the 1270 (980 and 2000P as well). It sells for $149.00. Check out Epson's site. By the way, I understand the CompUSA is now carrying the 1280!
