I must admit I am using a iceBook no a tower, but I fgure ALL of you use a mouse here so why not ask?

I have a 6 month old PRO mouse and for the last 2 days it "hangs up". Freezes for about 3-4 seconds. This happens every few minuets it seems (or at least way too much!!!)

Its never done this before. I switched USB ports and its still doing it. Otherwise it works perfectly. When it does its little freeze, my track pad mouse works fine.

I'm running 10.1.4

Anyone ever have this happen?

1. have the mouse plugged in, lift it up and study the underside

2. 'wag' the end where it goes into the mouse a little (wiggle it around and such) if the light flickers or 'freezes' then it's a shorted wire.

I'm almost 100% positive the wire is shorting out, it's a common problem, but apple probably won't replace it.

Get a gerbil or hampster, they're more reliable.

Have you got USB Overdrive installed? I might be imagining this but my mouse has also been freezing recently. I just dumped USB Overdrive (I only installed it to see if it worked with my Graphire tablet) and I havent noticed any freezes now.

I was imagining it, the mouse still freezes without USB Overdrive.

I have a very weird problem and wonder if anyone else has experienced it. I have several users on my machine- QS/867 10.1.4- and only one of them has a problem after computer wake up- the mouse/keyboard does not work anymore and the red laser light is gone. The only think I can do at this point is to restart the computer. The mouse/keyboard is connected directly to the tower, not to any other USB device.

No other user experiences this problem. There is nothing in the start-up window pane (not even the iTunes helper app).

Thanks.

OK, I know I've bumped this, but I have sorted my mouse freezing problem, which was similar to SeSawaya's. Before, when I had the problem, I had my keboard and mouse plugged into my monitor USB ports. Now I have swapped some connections and the keyboard is plugged into the back of my G4. No more freezes. Seems like a power thing where the mouse likes to have power direct from the computer's USB port, and not through a hub. Works for me anyway. For SeSawaya, maybe your iBook doesn't have enough power to its USB to run a mouse (do you have anything in the other USB port, maybe you have something power intensive connected. Or maybe your mouse freezes when you are low on battery power.
