FYI, i've done the flashing on my DVR-106 and it works like a charm. it's also sped up burning times as well...

Can it be flashed so that it can write Dual Layer Disks???? I was told that Pioneer demonstrated this drive writing Dual Layer Disks once. I also wondered that if updating this drive makes it appear to be a third party drive instead of an apple shipped drive.

So, has anybody used the DVRFlash_V2.2 utility successfully? I downloaded it but have been hesitant to use it.
I have a sawtooth g4 450MHz and have installed a pioneer A106 superdrive a while ago. It never had it's firmware updated.

I don't know other than what I have read and that is that it usually speeds up the time to record a DVD. Plus, in general its better to have the latest software/firmware.

That doesn't sound too convincing. Unless this makes it a faster or Dual layer burner it isn't worth it for me.

I haven't found that you can make that drive a Dual Layer yet.. if you can't I wouldn't flash it because you'll loose the Apple Firmware for a generic firmware by Pioneer instead.. It will only make it more compatible with more media types.. the Speed of that Drive is okay... I opted to just install a DVR-110D instead.. and I upgraded the firmware on it successfully to 1.39 using DVRFlash 2.2 utility. You have to follow the diretions to the tee but it does work.
