I'm having a strange problem with my home network:

I have two Macs: a TiBook connected to the network by AirPort; the other is a PowerBook G3 Bonze Keyboard (SCSI-USB) connected via Ethernet.

My printer is an Epson Stylus 980 connected via Ethernet and AppleTalk.

Using the TiBook, everything works fine. The printer is always fast and responsive in either X or Classic. So it was the PowerBook G3 - initially. Now, whenever I print from OS X on the PowerBook G3, it takes around 5mns to print a single page of text. In Classic, it's as fast as before. The problem is only in X.

I've tried deleting Epson files (but I may have missed some), removing the printer from the Print Centre and getting it back again, I've run the latest version of Norton, I've done fsck. Nothing works.

Does anyone have any idea?

Thank you for any help you may provide.

PS: my knowledge of UNIX and Terminal is non-existant <img border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" title="" src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" />

try changing your print settings. the default might be for the highest quality, but if you're doing basic stuff, then you need just 300 dpi, draft quality.

Hi fulmer

Wish it were that simple: the setting are set to "High Speed" at the lowest quality.

The network is unaffected (going online and file sharing is perfect), the Print Centre shows nothing wrong (the porgress bar goes all the way to the end and then stays there for 5 minutes until the printer finishes printing before disappearing).

I've tried everything I could think of. I'm now considering backing up Mac OS 9's system folder and my user accounts, formatting the drive and starting again!
