I'm looking at the red and yellow vst zip 100 and it looks great. small, colors a lil bright but i dont care if it works great. i have a powerbook g4 and need a hot swappable true plug and play device. HOT SWAPPABLE & PLUG AND PLAY. NO EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE. can ya gimme the straight up 411 on the vst and let me know if there is anything better?

-aight.

jack daddy,

If your talking VST 100MB Firewire Zip, yes it works great. Just bought one for my Ti 500.
On the Ti, with OS 9.1 installed, you just plug in the drive, (they give you the Firewire cable), insert the zip disk, and instantly it mounts on the desktop, no external power needed. You can format the disk from the finder. No additional extensions are needed. If you want addidtional options, (like upgrading the firmware, partitioning the zip, password protection, hot plug events, Dos format) install the VST software. this gives you all the above, plus a control strip module. It might be red & yellow, but it's beautiful. I also bought a USB 250MB Iomega zip drive, that comes with a firewire adapter. It's cooler looking, reads 250Mb & 100MB zip disks, and with the Firewire adapter, it's fast. It also does not require external power. And get this, Outpost sells this drive for $209, about $50 cheaper than the 100MB VST zip. Choose your poison!!!

wassup bugs,

thanks for the information. the vst 100 sounds great to me as of right now. but the 250 sounds intriguing because of the price of the vst 100. however i do want a lil drive like the vst one. is the iomega big and bulky? and to be honest i secretly thing the vst looks cool.

JD,

The Iomega 250 zip is actually the same size as the VST 100 zip. The Iomega 250 is a cool looking deep blue & graphite color.

i'm gonna go with the vst because i'm going to be using 100 mb zips primarily. if i mix it up, then i'm just gonna confuse myself and cause more trouble/work than necessary. if i stick with 100s, which are actually pretty big for what i do. i mean it's for my titanium, so... it's gonna be on my harddrive until i print and then i bring in the zip to work to actually do the printing. or whatever...i'm trying to rack up posts to be a senior member. haha

When using the drive without installing any software. When you eject the disk (drag to the trash) does it think you put another disk in and mount it again (because the disk is still in the drive) without drivers?

When using the drive with the VST software. Is it IomegaWare?

Once you eject the disk, either by cmnd E, or dragging to trash, the zip disk spits out, and the drive icon is gone. It will not mount again until another disk is inserted in the Zip drive. I think that's what you are asking

Nope, it's VST's software. It's called VST Format. And it does allow you to format your zip disks in DOS format under Mac OS 9.1, unlike Iomega Tools.

I forgot that Zip drives eject the disk.

I ask that question because when I use my Compact Flash reader (by SanDisk) without the drives. When I drag it to the trash, it gets rid of the icon. But then remounts it before I can remove it.

Thanks again!

I'm thinking of getting a VST Zip 100 drive for my Ti...my question is...is it supported under OS X?
