I have a Sony Spressa USB CDRW for my iMac DV SE (1st generation) and a Firewire driver (60GB) with Radialogic software for FireWire drive control. It turns out that when I enable the required extensions for both devices, when I wish to shutdown my iMac, the Finder complains that has unexpectedly quit and returns me to the desktop. I then can choose to shutdown once again and the machine freezes. The only way to shutdown is kill the power.
I have tried extensions sets which have no USB/Firewire third party as well as extension sets where only one of the two subsystem extensions were activated. It seems to only appear when both are activated. Anybody with suggestions? This is getting ridiculous since the third party vendors are blaming each other for the problem.
My opinion is that the OS is not handling the Firewire and USB scenarios properly when asked to shutdown or reboot and this is causing the havoc since I need/should scan the disk each time I boot again to check against errors.
