I beg to differ,
These monkeys did a test, Umax 6400 Firewire scanner, and the Epson 1220U USB scanner. The results were suprising. At 300dpi the Epson beat the Umax. Only until you scan at 1200dpi do you see any significant speed difference, the Umax beating the Epson. However speed isn't everything, image quality is, and the Epson scans were consistently better. I have the Epson, and it's one fantastic scanner, fast, very good image quality, and cheaper then the Umax. So Firewire isn't all it's cracked up to be, yet. The USB Epson beat the Umax Firewire scanner in image quality, and speed. http://www.techtv.com/freshgear/firs...000787,00.html

I have tested the Epson and the Umax scanner and where the Epson beats the Umax is the time it actually takes to scan the image. The Epson scans faster, however the Umax doesn't scan that much slower. However it takes the Epson a lot longer to actually send the information to the computer. If you increase the dpi over 300, it get's even worse. If you time from the beginning of the scan to the point where you actually see the image on your screen, the Umax wins hands down!

Anyone taken a look @ the MicroTek 5700? It's FireWire, but I'm wondering about the quality. Any reviews out there?
