yes, but also more expensive. Sitting at the CRT you are staring down the barrel of an electron GUN shooting radiation at you. Pretty safe for the most part but still radiation.

More important though is flatpanel displays don't flicker like CRT's. You may not be able to tell, but after awhile your eyes can.

If you sit at the computer for long periods of time then maybe a flat panel is justified for the fewer headaches you will get. Otherwise it's just how much you want to spend for cool and a small footprint.

I got one for the eyes and extra desk space for homework. At least that's what the wife thinks, but it is really cool too.

CRT.
Bigger is better, real estate wise. You can get a massive CRT for less than a small LCD.
But, LCD is easy on the eyes... which is very nice.
Its your personal preference really... easy on the eyes, or more space?
I know which I'd choose.

Flat panels are better for your eyes as others have said before (this time a doctor is telling you if it means anything to you).. they are overall better for your health as there's more than your eyes to receive the radiation coming from an electron gun, things that you probably don't and won't think about.

So it comes down to this:

1) can you afford one?
2) do you have space constraints?
3) is it a personal decision?
4) do you/will you have a digital video output (analog outputs don't look as good on a flat panel, all other things being equal - but you might not be able to notice it, anyway)

I would probably have purchased a 15" apple flat panel display already if my pismo had DVI and/or the FP had analog input. I will purchase a high end G4/(G5??) in a few months as I've converted my girlfriend and now we don't use our PeeCee at all. Maybe if Apple comes out with a 17" one that has an analog port while we're wating to a DVI port.
