Can you make a copy of a DVD video with a DVD-ram recorder ?
I'm about to buy one and i want to be sure !

No. You can't.
To do that you need to spend $8000 Oz on a DVD Writer. Even then, I don't know...

DVDextractor (http://www.macdvd.org) is a nice app which extract and make a decrypted toast image of the disk, ready to be copied.

but as far as I know, the dvd writers aren't able to write 17Go DVD's... this kind of copy will be possible with small DVDs only

another problem is the empty-DVD's cost...

That won't work either.
A DVD player cannot read DVD-RAM disks!!!
Your best bet is extracting, burning to a couple DVD-RAMs, and watching on a computer that is capable of reading a DVD-RAM.

Of course, with the price of DVD-RAM media, it would probably be cheaper to just buy another copy of the DVD in question.
