I have a sawtooth g4 and installed a pioneer 106D superdrive a few years ago. I never updated the firmware but have read several times over the years that there are new updates.

I've downloaded the DVRFlash_v2.2 ultility but want to check with some others before using it. So, does it work ok and did you notice an improvement?
Any advice is appreciated.

I've used it several times to update a 109 and now a 110.

I personally didn't have any problems at all. Just be sure to read all the supplied documentation first.

And be prepared to hold your breath for about 30 seconds!

I used it on my Pioneer 110D. I updated it with a modified Buffalo OEM firmware for the 110D that:

1) Removes the rip speed lock on Pioneer drives.
2) Adds RPC1 region free functionality.
3) Auto bitsets DVD+R discs to show up as DVD-ROM, for compatibility in older drives.
4) Enables DVD-RAM support.

DVRFlash 2.2 rocks.

Perhaps you can find a similar firmware for your drive.
